A Chip Off The Old Block

An old saying that most of us are familiar with says, "Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery."
Many of us growing up wanted to be like our father, or some other male figure in our lives who we admired, honored, and held dear. Many of us were so proud of our dads that we couldn't wait to grow up, so that we could be just like him.
I do realize that the pendulum swings both ways. Meaning that some of us didn't have father's in the home, and some of us had dads in the home, but we were not fathered.
But there are those who did, there are those who admired their dads more than any other being on earth, and wanted nothing more than to be the spitting image of their father.
And to venture a little further, it is the joy of a father to have his son grow up imitating him. Many of us have heard men say about their sons that they are proud of, to others during a conversation, "He's A Chip Off The Old Block."
I found that Jesus strongly imitated His Father in all things, in word and in deed. Jesus is recorded in The Gospel of John 5:19 saying,
"Truly, truly, I tell you, the Son can do nothing by Himself, unless He sees the Father doing it. For whatever the Father does, the Son also Does."
And also in The Gospel of John 12:49, Jesus said, "I have not spoken on My own, but the Father who sent Me has commanded Me what to say and how to say it."
Jesus, while on earth, was the spitting image of His Father, in every thing that He did and said. And on several occasions, we can heard the voice of God, speaking through a cloud, about His Only Begotten Son, saying, "This is My Beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased." Or if I may paraphrase, "He's A Chip Off The Old Block."
I began to remember that we are saved, washed in the blood of Jesus, and God is our Father. I began to remember that one day this life down here will be over, it will be God's time to call, and our time to answer. One day, as my Bishop used to say, we will stick our swords in the sands of time, to study war no more.
I began to think that one day we will all stand before the judgment seat of Christ, to give an account of our lives, and we say, "All I want is to hear God say "Well Done." "Well done, thy good and faithful servant."
But when I think about it, as my Father, I would love to hear God say in the presence of Jesus, and the Angels, concerning me, "He's A Chip Off The Old Block."
